Rancid Vat-Darkest Souls In Rock And Roll

Rancid Vat plays what can be classified somewhere between Punk Rock, Southern Rock, Scumfuc Rock N Roll, Metal and Country...A little bit of everything...They kinda remind me of the Antiseen, both in sound and for their love of wrasslin'...They also belonged to the defunct "Confederacy of Scum" along with the Antiseen, and others. I discovered this band in my early punk rock days, back when I liked Rancid a little too much. One too many nights on Soulseek, searching for live Rancid bootleggs churned this up. I didn't know what I was downloading, but it would soon change my life, even if for only the running length of this album. I'm not even sure these are all of the songs, because I can't really find very much information, with the exception of this bio. The song "Eat Hot Lead" is without a doubt my favorite due to the fact that it singles out everyone without prejudice and is truely one of the best "Fuck Off, Fuck You" type songs I've heard. They outright defy political correctness...In fact, they spit on it, shit on it, piss on it and probably fuck on it to. Unless you are easily offended and stricken by the disease we know as "liberal elitism", you'll find something to enjoy here. So, enjoy!

Black Flag-Damaged

Easily one of the most important recordings to ever surface, Black Flag's "Damaged" has continuously transcended it's influence numerous times over into every genre of music. You can argue all day about which singer of Black Flag was better, among other things, but few can argue to significance of this album and the mark it has left and continues to leave. It's definitely the most well rounded of any of their releases and is by far their best. Rollins might not have been my favorite singer, but his voice drives this record to an entirely new level, reverberating from your ears to your sphincter and causing premature bowel evacuations at inopportune instances in time. What would follow "Damaged" was pretty much all bullshit, with a few halfway decent moments in between, this was Black Flag's landmark album. Nothing has come close to touching this record on every level...There have been a few to surpass it in certain key areas, but this one essentially has everything and then some...The song "Rise Above", with Ginn's guitar riff, combined with Rollin's rage could be an anthem for every subsequent generation and it should be. Every track here is a work of crudely drawn, yet powerful art. Pissed off in all the right places, emotional, and hard-hitting, this is the hardcore masterpiece. Enjoy!

Blatz/Filth-The Shit Split

It's hard too say which band is worse, Blatz or Filth...Actually, I'm pretty sure it's Blatz. They couldn't play and the vocals are the most annoying fucking thing about them. Filth is an interesting crust band, but they still kinda suck. Filth is the musically superior of the two, but being better than Blatz isn't hard...Filth's vocals just don't seem to fit with the music and at the same time, they do. Regardless of the fact that they both suck, I still really like this split...I guess I just like shitty music. Fuck me.

Battalion Of Saints-Death R Us

Here's a nice collection of tunes from the San Diego hardcore band, Battalion Of Saints. The story behind the band is a tragic one...Let me spare you the time and details though...Basically everyone died and the vocalist George Anthony, who you'd think should be dead if you ever met him, somehow isn't dead...Yet, anyways...Battalion Of Saints ranks in there as one of my all-time favorites and are truly a gem of the early Southern California hardcore scene. Every fucking song on here is a hardcore classic. A defining moment in my life was showing George Anthony my unfinished Battalion Of Saints tattoo and him calling me a jackass or something along those lines. He's the fucking jackass, fuck him. Great band though, enjoy!

Blitz-The Complete Blitz Singles Collection

Blitz were a damn great Oi! band until Nidge was hit was hit by a car...This was a couple weeks or so after I saw them in Victorville at the Trilogy Theatre. At least I saw them. Less than a month before, Brett Liles of Social Distortion and Agent Orange fame was hit by a truck...Conspiracy?

The first half of this album contains some of the best street punk anthems ever released, while the other second half is pretty much New Wavey-type stuff. While I usually write New Wave off as garbage, it's actually pretty fucking good...When Blitz plays it. That statement was biased as fuck, I'm aware of that, but fuck it...This is probably the best representation of the band available and it's a great starting ground, or a great stopping point. If you like completeness and have to steal every fucking release, every goddamn obscure EP and Live Bootlegg, check some of the other blog sites. Anyways, enjoy it motherfuckers!

Star Fucking Hipsters-Until We're Dead

What can I really say about Star Fucking Hipsters? It sounds like Leftover Crack, as in Leftover Crack on their side of the Deadline split with Citizen Fish, but with female vocals. If you heard the Deadline split, it's LOC, but noticeably lighter in sound and with more of a pop sensibility. It was decent, worth a listen, as is this. Leftover Crack has always played different styles, often in the same song, and that tradition carries on with Star Fucking Hipsters, but with more experimentation in indie rock styles than in crust and ska. It might turn off some close minded fans, but if you go in with an open mind, it hurts a little less after each listen. Check it out...Enjoy!
