Insanity Defense-Demo Tape + Pilgrim State LP

Insanity Defense, from East Northport in New York played some pretty interesting music filled with lyrics that were actually well thought out.

Their demo tape is a more straight forward assault of hardcore filled with your usual punk rock anthems. While a thrashing blitz of hate, it still finds itself with catchy choruses and melody. It's a fine piece of hardcore punk. Favorite tracks: "Social Motions" and "Grudge Against The World".

"Pilgrim State" is something I could compare to post-"Damaged" Black Flag or some of the other bands on SST around that time. It's a lot slower than the demo and is injected with a higher dose of melodic sensibility. It's interesting to say the least. You still have the all out thrasher, but in far less frequency. The final song, "Witchhunt" literally plays out at a snail's pace and inspires heavy yawning. Favorite tracks: "Something To Believe In" and "It Used To Be".
