I will post damn near anything for local bands who want to get their music out there, so email me at:

Include a link to your shit and don't be a fag, you fucking faggot. Eat a dick. Lick on these testicles. I wanna anally inseminate Miles Ellerbeck (this will probably be here a year or two before he sees it...Love you bro). Also open yourself up to constructive criticism. I'll bluntly tell you it sucks and give the world a link to see just how bad it sucks. I am mimicking the stream of conscious asshole blogger speech now. Fuck you and eat several more dicks.

Fugazi-13 Songs

Minor Threat was DC hardcore...Sure, you had the Bad Brains, S.O.A., Government Issue, Scream, Youth Brigade, etc., but Minor Threat is the most standout and the most well remembered of that early scene. DC Hardcore happened fast...Then died. It was simultaneously primitive and passionate. It was never something that was meant to last and it's probably best that it didn't...

When you make allegations that the scene died, there's always that asshole (like me) who brings up "Revolution Summer" and the bands that it spawned, most notably Embrace and Rites Of Spring. Those bands certainly expanded on the overall sound of hardcore, but also laid the groundwork for what is called "emo". As McKaye would probably say, "it was emotional hardcore, or just hardcore". I'll go with the latter, because anyone who says that (early 80s) hardcore punk wasn't emotional (certainly different emotions) is truly an asshole.

This whole ordeal happened later on, after the early scenes on both sides of the coast were all but dead...NYHC was still in it's heyday, but most of the good bands broke up in nearly every other scene. In 1987, shit wasn't like the old days...Or so they say. I was still a little white tadpole in my father's scrotum when all of this went down...

In 1987, from the ashes of their many failed bands, Ian Mackaye and Guy Picciotto ended up in Fugazi. Fugazi doesn't really fit in any genre. It's a pretty fucking diverse undertaking considering the sound typified by Ian and Guy's other bands. Ian wanted a band that sounded like "The Stooges with reggae". It's safe to say that he ended up with a band that is a complete musical contradiction. The music is readily defined by the fact it fits no where. This isn't some random mash up of genres, it all has a highly calculated feel. It's good fucking music. When you hear Ian and then you hear one of Guy's songs, tell me that they don't contrast to the point where you could make the distinction that you are hearing separate bands...It's "different".

Good shit though. Really good shit. "13 Songs" is a damn fine album, a collection of their first two EPs and they couldn't be better played back to back. Being honest, I haven't dug deeper into their discography and perhaps I should. Enjoy.
